HOW TO USE THIS VIDEO

Stage: Stage 3, Year 6

Background information:

The video ‘Eyes’ is a video that implements three fun facts about the human eye for students to gather interesting information about the functions of their eye. Within the video, each facts provides a short and simple explanation for the students to grasp a better understanding. This video is ideally implemented as an introductory lesson to introduce students learning about the human eye. Moreover, the video belongs in the engage phase of learning, as students are participating and focusing on the learning outcomes of the interactive activities implemented in the video.  The video incorporates easy interactive activities that engages students in the concept that will be taught within the unit of work. Hence, these activities prompt interest for students to develop questions and curiosity about the features of the eye.

Follow up activities:

Activities that could be implement to further develop students’ knowledge within the unit of work should include aspects where students are actively exploring, explaining, elaborating and evaluating their learning. As an exploring activity, group students in 2-3 and they can write down all the questions they would like to know about the eye. Students then can utilise a variety of books and the internet to research answers to their questions. They then present further facts and information’s about the eye in forms of a 3D model or a presentation to the whole class. Moreover, the learning of the eye can be linked with other KLA’S such as PDHPE. The subject PDHPE educates students about safe living. Through this, teachers can utilise scenarios about safe living to develop a class discussion on the different ways students can protect their eyes.
