Tooltime: A sustainable OER development model: tapping into student-generated content | 18 May - LX at UTS
  • Tuesday, 18 May 2021
    3:00 pm - 3:30 pm
  • LX.lab CB06.04.020

Open educational resources (OER) offer many benefits for teaching and learning in higher education. These include helping academics to improve the quality of existing subjects, reducing costs of teaching materials, and widen access to education. However, challenges still occupying the OER domain where academics flagged that they usually struggle with finding the correct contents or that the existing resources are not adaptable due to licensing restrictions (e.g. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) or don’t fit their instructional strategies.

As a response to finding contextualised and malleable learning resources, many academics have already started creating their own OER. The process of creating OER usually requires time and effort to generate high-quality content. Unfortunately, staffing and securing funding continue to be the major barriers that challenge the OER development process that forced many projects to discontinue. Therefore, there is a need for more sustainable OER development models that help academics openly share the knowledge produced in higher educational institutions.

What’s covered in this session

In this tooltime session you will be:

  • Introduced to an OER development model that taps into student-generated content
  • Provided with a review of content authoring tools that support the creation, licensing, and publishing of the resources.

This is a hybrid event. Please select how you wish to attend this event either online or on-campus.

What is Tooltime?

Tooltime is a series of short informal showcases, where staff from all areas are given the opportunity to share a gadget, tool, app, workflow or technique. The technologies showcased can range from anything that could engage learners, streamline teaching or are simply time savers. Sessions do not have to formally address teaching and learning concepts in-depth, but rather recognise the technology’s potential capabilities in this area. Each session in the series will run for 30 minutes and are intended for either academic or professional staff.

Disclaimer:

The Tooltime hosts make no claims on the utility of tools and do not necessarily provide support for the gadgets, widgets or workflows presented.
