L&T Awards Masterclass | The reality of peer marking | 29 May - LX at UTS
  • Wednesday, 29 May 2019
    2:00 pm - 2:30 pm
  • LX.lab CB06.04.020

Dr Cathy Gorrie is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Life Sciences in the Faculty of Science. She won the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s ‘Learning and Teaching ‘Individual Teaching’ Award for her project on ‘Embedding learning activities in the Biomedical science course that require students to think independently, use their initiative and to be creative’. Join us in the Learner experience lab for a hands-on Masterclass on her teaching approach.

There are many good pedagogical reasons and practical reasons to include peer marking in your subject. It is aimed at enhancing the learning experience, assisting in deep learning and enhancing the acquisition of critical thinking skills. It also encourages students to develop skills for the analysis and critical evaluation. Practically it provides students with timely and individual feedback and the opportunity to observe different approaches to the same task that they can learn from. However, it does require some careful planning and for you and the students to be confident of the process.

In this class we will look at:

  • Preparing for peer marking
  • Undertaking the peer marking activities
  • Following up

Please come along ready to mark!

In case you missed it, check out the photos and video from the Learning and Teaching Awards night in our wrap-up post.
