Dr Amir Armanious is a Lecturer in the School of Economics and Finance in the Faculty of Business. He won the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s ‘Teaching by a Casual Academic’ Award for his project on ‘For exponential learning and better employability, finance and economics curricula are restructured to enhance students’ skills by thinking critically and working collaboratively using real-world simulations.’ Join us in the Learner experience lab for a hands-on Masterclass on her teaching approach.
The current subject curriculum faces real challenges in terms of subject structure, focus on knowledge construction rather than enhancing skills, low students’ motivation, poor students’ engagement, weak connection to real-world examples, topics gaps and content overlaps. The subject curriculum needs to be redesigned in order to enhance creativity, brainstorming and critical thinking, applicability rather than merely transforming knowledge from educators to learners. This masterclass provides a comprehensive remedy to the existing challenges by proposing a framework for creating a friendly learning environment that incorporates students, educators, content and facility by applying blended learning and focusing on a student-centred approach. Business is all about scarcity and students’ cognitive abilities and powers of concentration are scarce resources. Therefore, the competition for students’ attention is more intense nowadays. There is a need to create a friendly learning environment to ignite students’ passion and assist them to rediscover their potential.
In this session, you will learn how to re-design subjects to achieve the following:
- Create a friendly learning environment
- Enhance collaborative learning and engage students
- Avoid topics gaps and content overlaps.
