Exploring approaches to online discussions | 29 April - LX at UTS

Finding effective ways to engage students in productive online discussions can be difficult. Come along and hear from panellists, Dr Donna Rooney and Dr Daniel Demant as they discuss their experiences facilitating online discussions. This interactive forum will explore challenges, opportunities and reflections on lessons learnt. It will also offer an opportunity to pose questions and discuss.

Panellists

Dr Donna Rooney is a full-time lecturer/researcher at UTS.  The central focus of her research and teaching is adult learning in and beyond educational institutions. She draws from a range of conceptual resources – including, socio-material, post-human, and more recently practice based theories.  

Dr Daniel Demant is an Epidemiologist and Public Health lecturer with a focus on health inequalities in minority populations, particularly substance use and sexual health. His research has been published in leading scientific journals, in the media and was presented at national/international conferences.

Facilitators

Ann Wilson is a Senior Curriculum Designer in IML.  She has been teaching and learning online for 25 years, and is a keen advocate of using technology in learning and teaching.

Leslie McInnes is a senior educational designer in IML with an ongoing involvement in the implementation of online and blended learning strategies. She also has a particular interest in ePortfolios and their role in providing authentic assessment opportunities.
