Request a Canvas Sandpit

Your Canvas Sandpit is a practice Canvas site where you can explore and test the many features and tools of Canvas, build content, and plan and design for your actual subject site. It is only visible to you unless you add in other people into the site.

1. Go to ServiceConnect and click on ‘Get help’ to access the IT Service request form. 
2. Fill out the required information on the form to request for a Canvas Sandpit:
   • Is your request related to: Something else not listed here
   • Please enter a brief description: Request for Canvas sandpit
3. Once the request is submitted, the IT Support team will send an email confirmation once your sandpit is ready.

1. Log into Canvas.
2. On your Dashboard, your Canvas sandpit should be listed under ‘Published Courses’ or ‘Unpublished Courses’ depending on its publishing status as “Firstname Lastname Sandpit”.
3. If it’s not listed on the Dashboard, check if it’s in ‘Courses’ > ‘All Courses’ > under ‘All Courses’ or ‘Past Enrolments’.

• Explore the basic functions in Canvas, including the Rich Content Editor, Modules, Pages, and more.
• Play around with the Course Settings with no consequence to your actual subject site.
• Add your colleagues into your Sandpit with the Student role to test how activities such as Quizzes or Groups will appear to students. Work together to explore tools that may be limited with Student View.
• Build content such as Pages or Assignments in your Sandpit, then copy them over into your actual subject site.
• On the flip side, copy over content from your actual subject site into your Sandpit to do further testing without it affecting your actual subject site.
• Save exemplar pages or templates in your Sandpit to use for future subject sites.
• Use it as an extra backup space to store content and files.
