You can start Whiteboard with a blank slate, or (on the PC desktop version) use a ready made template to help you plan your time, or reflect on tasks and gather feedback.
Whiteboard is useful for identifying where there are gaps in student knowledge with instant feedback, and then plan where more teaching is required. A blank sheet in MS Whiteboard is useful for explaining workflows with shapes and colourful drawing tools. Sticky notes and other elements can be moved around, and participants can see the movements in real time. Students can drop in images, vote on plans and create a sense of collaborative learning.
Ask students to vote on a group of sticky notes with ‘likes’ and then sort the notes by popularity. The most popular notes can be converted into a checklist.
The desktop version of MS Whiteboard lets you start with a predefined template. Most of the templates are, in essence, a group of sticky notes. These are the most useful templates for a virtual classroom.
Opens with four groups of sticky notes that explore the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of any subject. You could cutomise this template to compare business strategies, philosophical ideas or medical treatment options.

This MS Whiteboard template uses the kanban workflow management method. It opens with a visual board of three sticky note groups to understand the status of a project. Similarly, the Retrospective template is basically the Kanban template with different headings to look back and reflect. You could use these two templates in a virtual classroom as an overview of a subject course.

Lays out an ‘agenda’ with free text, ‘follow ups’ as a checklist and ‘out of scope’ as sticky notes. You could easily modify this as an ‘Effective Class’.

Need a different template? You can make your own customised template in the MS Whiteboard desktop app to use again and again.
