Since the start of the pandemic, people have been looking into ways to be productive while stuck indoors (…or keeping boredom at bay). There has been an increase of interest in self-learning through massive open online courses to make the best use of time.
LinkedIn Learning, formerly Lynda.com, is available for all UTS staff and students for professional development and upskilling in areas of business, creativity and technology. It has a huge collection of professionally made videos led by industry experts to help staff and students alike to achieve a lifetime of learning.
Here are a few reasons why you should consider using LinkedIn Learning as part of your teaching:
1. For a blended learning approach
There has been an increase in requests for recorded lectures in the last decade, changing the way students engage with educational content. It is a good opportunity for students to watch videos on key concepts and theories at their own pace, and as many times as they like. Watching these videos before class leaves room for more time on class discussions, collaborative group activities, and practical work.
2. Reusing and sharing content > creating content that exists
Rather than spending time making a video e.g. on how to use Endnote, or making a pivot table in Excel, or anything foundational, it’ll be sustainable to reuse and share LinkedIn Learning videos that are already out there ready for the taking. You can then use that freed time to create specific content that is more relevant to your subject or topic.
3. Accessible in multiple ways
All LinkedIn Learning videos have closed captions and transcripts, which is helpful for students that need a text version of the content. Most videos are available in multiple languages as well. It can play on mobile and the embed code is responsive. Overseas students e.g. from China can access and watch the videos if they’ve connected their account with LinkedIn Learning.
