What’s happening on campus in May?

A series of Automated Feedback events

In a four-part event series running throughout May, we will look at the key categories of automated feedback and how you can use them to respond to a range of common and pressing issues associated with learning and teaching. The four sessions are:

The return of Tooltime

Tooltime is a series of short informal showcases, where staff from all areas are given the opportunity to share a gadget, tool, app, workflow or technique. Last year, our online series of Tooltime events ranged from pedagogy wheels and online student activities to Microsoft Planner and H5P.

Tooltime returns in 2021 with an interactive session on creating mind maps – read Lucy Blakemore’s piece on the origin and basics of mind maps and register for the event in the LX.lab on Tuesday 11th May. Then, following on from our recent blogs on Open Educational Resources (read parts 1 and 2, with a third to come), a Tooltime event on Tuesday 18th May introduces an OER development model that taps into student-generated content.

Video editing made easy

Also part of our Tooltime roster last year were our sessions on editing with Windows 10 editor and iMovie. Now they’re both back by popular demand! Matt Vella delivered a session on editing in iMovie as part of the RES Hub launch, but will be repeating the session in the LX.lab on Wednesday 19th May. If you’re a PC user, register for Natasha Sutevski’s Video editing with Windows Video Editor on Wednesday 12th May.

Introducing: Unplugged

Reconnect with face-to-face strategies in our new series of ‘Unplugged’ events (no bongos required). Putting pedagogy over technology, these sessions will be interactive and collaborative. Unplugged kicks off on Tuesday 25th May with Face-to-face: what is it good for?

Plus all of our regular services – both online and in person

The LX.lab is providing online (via Zoom) and face-to-face consultations between 10am-4pm. Make sure to lodge a request on ServiceConnect via lxlabservices.uts.edu.au to discuss your questions with a Learning Design and Technology Specialist. Bookings are essential.
