Enrol now for Feedback and Assessment - LX at UTS

Last year, the TACT team explored feedback and assessment as one of their ‘hot topics’. This year, the thorny issue of feedback is explored in a new subject being offered as part of the revised Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning (GCHETL). It’s free for UTS staff and HDR students teaching into subjects – read on to find out more about the subject and how to enrol.

Content and structure

Using a holistic learning design approach, you will be invited to explore, review and potentially redesign the feedback and assessment strategy in a subject of your choosing.

As an introduction to feedback and assessment design, this subject will cover:

  • The purpose, principles and methods of effective assessment
  • The multiple factors involved in assessment design decision-making
  • The design principles underpinning ‘assessment for learning’
  • Feedback practices that support students’ development of agency and evaluative judgement

The subject runs from 3 October to 13 November 2022, and involves approximately 10 hours of study per week.

The subject includes:

  • Online learning in Canvas
  • 3 synchronous online sessions: (Week 1: Friday 11 October, 10.00–11.30am; Week 3: Friday 21 October, 10.00–11.30am; Week 5: Friday 4 November, 10.00–11.30am)
  • An online Design Studio Space where you will be invited to work on your own individual design in informal study groups

There are two assessment tasks:

  • A written analysis of your selected feedback and assessment strategy (Week 3)
  • A visual and verbal representation of your (potentially redesigned) feedback and assessment strategy (Week 6)

How to enrol

UTS Staff who are teaching this Spring term are warmly welcome to enrol if they fulfil the conditions of enrolment (see handbook entry). This subject is Subject Coordinators and Teaching staff who may be responsible for designing feedback and assessment practices.

If you have missed enrolment to the GCHETL this Spring 2022, you can still enrol in a single subject (core or elective) such as Feedback and Assessment as a non-award subject. If you’d like to continue your studies in the GCHETL, you can enrol in the next intake (commences Feb 2023) and apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Submit your application via the UTS Student Portal using a non-UTS email address – you’ll be issued a UTS student address while studying.

The deadline for enrolment is 11 October.
