5 things to mark in your July calendar - LX at UTS

LX.lab events

1. Hear about the LinkedIn Learning benefits you might be missing out on (online)

Our next Tooltime session focuses on the enormous range of learning content available to all UTS staff and students on LinkedIn Learning. From coding, to photography and even songwriting, there’s a wealth of free, quality videos that can make a great supplemental resource to your teaching. Zoom in with the LX.lab on Thursday 7 July to learn more.

2. Learn how to do more with Mentimeter (on campus)

This on-campus event is perfect for anyone who has started using Mentimeter and would like to take it further. Learn how to use Mentimeter’s collaboration tools, save time by reusing presentations, confidently create accessible presentations and more! Register and come by the LX.lab on Thursday 21 July to join this workshop.

3. Fine-tune your feedback for students with OnTask (online)

Many teaching staff at UTS understand the difficulty of delivering effective feedback for students in large classes. And if you haven’t met OnTask yet, this two-part online event series is your chance to make this complicated process easier for all involved. In the first part of the workshop, OnTask will be introduced and its communication features demonstrated – part two is a hands-on session where you’ll learn how to set up OnTask for your subject. Zoom in with facilitator Lisa Angelique Lim (CIC) on 20 and 22 July.

Around UTS

4. Delve into democracy with special guest speakers (on campus and online)

The Vice Chancellor’s Democracy Forum is a great opportunity to explore the complicated issues of the current moment, featuring both guest speakers and UTS academics. On 7 July at 5:30, Professor Joseph Stiglitz will deliver an address on the role of government in shaping post-Covid economic recovery, innovation and social outcomes in Australia. On 12 July, Professor Lea Ypi will talk with UTS Emeritus Professor Roy Green on the concept of freedom in an age of populism and autocracy in an online event. You can register for the Vice-Chancellor’s Democracy Forum events on the UTS website

5. See the new exhibition at UTS Art Gallery (on campus)

Make time for the creative with a new exhibition at the UTS Art Gallery in Building 6. In She Speaks in Sculpture (19 July – 9 September 2022), Diana Baker Smith explores the histories of Sydney’s built environment through the work of Australian-American sculptor Margel Hinder (1906-1995). Find out more and see what else is on at the gallery on the UTS Art Gallery website
