PEPN Meetup: Sustainable WIL Partnerships | 19 October - LX at UTS
  • Thursday, 19 October 2023
    3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
  • Zoom – further details provided upon registration

Guest presenters:

Alexandra Fransen UTS Sustainable Development Goals Project Manager

Annette Dockerty Program Lead, SME@UTS Pathways SME (Small to medium enterprises) Engagement.

Do you have questions about quality partnerships for WIL both within and external to the curriculum? In this network meeting we will hear from two of our PEPN colleagues who will share their work in the Small to Medium Enterprise space (SME) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) space at UTS.

Come along to discuss strategies for sustainable partnerships with students, other universities, industry and other external stakeholders to inform more engaged and focused development. Bring along your successes, challenges and questions as we welcome our two presenters.

A word from our presenters:

Annette Dockerty is the Program Lead for SME Engagement and runs SME@UTS which takes a holistic approach to engagement with industry. Operating like a concierge style service to SMEs with a main focus on manufacturing, Annette connects to industry via an ecosystem of partners that includes local councils and industry groups. At a macro level the intent is to scale Australian manufacturing and encourage investment in modern manufacturing Industry 4.0 technologies. At a micro practical level the idea is to lower barriers to engagement by making it easier for SMEs to access UTS resources such as student talent for WIL group projects, internships and graduate recruitment, knowledge via free masterclasses and futuremap  workshops, tours of UTS facilities and access to academic experts.  SME@UTS encourages SMEs to focus on digital leadership and investment in research and development and Annette brokers opportunities for student projects and internships to get them started on their journey.

Alexandra Fransen is the Sustainable Development Goals Project Manager at UTS and is tasked with raising awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the academic and professional areas of the university as well as mapping SDGs expertise, helping to identify strengths and opportunities, measure impact and communicate outcomes. In her work she is currently mapping courses against the SDGs and seeking to embed sustainability more broadly across the curriculum. As part of this project, she is looking to identify opportunities for students to engage with the SDGs framework and consider the challenges that the SDGs present to us. She will connect the SDGs with WIL and invite the UTS Professional Education and Practice Network(PEPN) to make the SDGs more explicit in their WIL practices.
