Get ready for Spring session - LX at UTS

The Spring 2023 teaching session is on its way. Canvas subject sites will be published and made available to students on Monday 31 July. Here is everything you need to do to have your Canvas site ready to teach for start of session.

Spotlight on academic integrity and generative AI in Spring 2023

Help your students navigate academic integrity and generative AI at UTS by making use of the following resources:

?️ Before 31 July: get your subject site ready for students

  • Check key settings, content and dates in Canvas before your site is published – use our subject rollover checklist for a step-by-step guide on what you might need to check and update from previous teaching sessions
  • Review your Canvas site using Student View and make sure content you want students to see is Published (or Unpublished, to stay hidden)
  • Provide students with clear links to library resources by updating your Reading Lists
  • Inclusive teaching boosts belonging for all students at UTS – make sure your site is accessible to everyone when your subject commences.
  • Keep everyone on track and create a subject schedule in Canvas with schedule templates from your Faculty Template Site – get access to your Faculty Template Site by signing up here

Need advice to finalise your subject site or make any changes? Contact the LX.lab as soon as possible.

?️ 31 July: connect, communicate and offer support

Help your students feel part of the subject by sending them a welcome announcement. Let students know how you will be communicating with them throughout the session, how they can access support, and your expectations for the use of generative AI in your class.

?️ 7 August: Week 1

In your first classes, help students feel at ease by building belonging and community in your teaching. Simple actions by you, like explaining the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ of your subject, or encouraging students to ask questions, can contribute to student participation and engagement in their learning.
