Making online Maths content Accessible for the Vision Impaired | 5 February

Online maths content is often inaccessible to students who are blind or have low vision.

This happens because most maths content is provided in PDF format and the mathematical formulas in PDF files cannot be read by screen reader software like JAWS or NVDA. In this session we’ll show you how to make your maths content available online in ways that are accessible to all. We’ll discuss how to create MathML content in either UTSOnline or Canvas in a number of ways, including ways to convert content from LaTeX files. We’ll also discuss how using MathML makes learning maths easier for everyone on mobile devices.
