10:00 am - 11:30 am - LX.lab CB06.04.020
Our 2017 Learner Experience (LX) Grant recipients have now successfully implemented a new learner experience in the classroom. Join us in the LX.lab and hear from your UTS academic colleagues.
Session 1: 10:05 – 10:20am
New UTS 350 student lecture theatres
This project presentation reports on the development of a large first year subject to be taught entirely in studio-mode and specifically designed to take advantage of the layout and technology of the new UTS 350 studio lecture theatres. For the development of the curriculum and its delivery a whole system approach has been taken where subject content and infrastructure needs are developed and visualised in layered structures to reveal dependencies and best teaching flow.
Presenters: Jurgen Schulte and Sally Inchbold
Session 2: 10:30 – 10:50am
“Swab and Culture Experiment” a mini-reflection both pre and post-lab
We developed “Mini-reflection pre-lab and post- lab on the “Swab and Culture Experiment” using google survey. The survey gives the teaching team a glimpse of the expectations and learning outcomes of the “Swab and Culture Experiment.” A part of the grant was used to develop more Clinical Scenarios for Introductory Pharmacology and Microbiology midwifery students.
Presenters: Hermily-Lourdes Geronimo, Ghaith Al-Badri, Tamara Carrodus and Carly Italiano
Session 3: 10:55 – 11:15am
Employing Students as Partners in collaboration with UTS Careers
We designed materials and interactive class activities, including a game helping students to explain their transdisciplinary (TD) value proposition, targeted at the BCII fourth year students. These activities helped students to develop their observational and analytical capabilities in innovation workplace contexts, as well as to begin to integrate their TD capabilities with their disciplinary professional profiles.
Presenters: Giedre Kligyte, Paul Brown, Adrian Buck and Marko Zitk.
Session 4: 11:20 – 11:40am
Method Cards
42 Method cards and only one weekend to learn them all. Is this possible? Our project addressed a problem where students from the FTDi would work through their entire university degree relying on their favourite method cards and not exploring the entire deck. We challenged this problem by designing a fun learning session for first year FTDi students that promotes problem-solving and narrative building.
Presenters: Paul Brown,Tyler Key, Ethan Gordon, Marko Zitko and Olivia Kirk
